Grant Award

The City of Decatur Fire Department has been awarded grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the FY 2011 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – Fire Prevention and Safety Grant. The project costs total to $87,900.00. The Federal share is $83,505.00 and our match is $4,395.00.

As a part of the program, we will provide home safety inspections which will address any hazards in the home; as well as the installation of lithium battery smoke alarms.  This will ensure that each resident receiving the smoke alarm has it placed in a proper location and that it is utilized and not put away waiting for installation.   We will target residential high risk homes within the City of Decatur giving priority to homes with children under the age of 14 and senior citizens.

Remember smoke alarms save lives.  Each year in the United States 3,000 people are killed in home fires.  Working some alarms increase your chance of surviving a fire by 50%.

If you would like a smoke alarm and a home inspection, please call 404-373-5092 to schedule your appointment.
